गन्धर्व उवाच अथ तस्यामदृश्यायां नृपतिः काममोहितः पातनः शत्रुसंघानां पपात धरणीतले
M. N. Dutt: The Gandharva said : On the disappearance of the maiden, that chastiser of foes the king, being deprived of his senses by desire, fell on the ground.
तस्मिन्निपतिते भूमावथ सा चारुहासिनी पुनः पीनायतश्रोणी दर्शयामास तं नृपम्
M. N. Dutt: On his falling down on the ground, that maiden of sweet smiles and of swelling and round hips, appeared again before the king.
अथाबभाषे कल्याणी वाचा मधुरया नृपम् तं कुरूणां कुलकरं कामाभिहतचेतसम्
M. N. Dutt: The blessed beauty (Tapati) then spoke to that king, the perpetuator of the Kuru race, these sweet words.

तपत्युवाच नाहमीशात्मनो राजन्कन्या पितृमती ह्यहम् मयि चेदस्ति ते प्रीतिर्याचस्व पितरं मम
M. N. Dutt: Tapati said: O king, I am not the mistress of my ownself. Know me to be a maiden living under the control of my father. If you really love me, ask me of my father.
यथा हि ते मया प्राणाः संगृहीता नरेश्वर दर्शनादेव भूयस्त्वं तथा प्राणान्ममाहरः
M. N. Dutt: O king, you say that your heart has been robbed by me; but you too have robbed my heart at the first sight.
न चाहमीशा देहस्य तस्मान्नृपतिसत्तम समीपं नोपगच्छामि न स्वतन्त्रा हि योषितः
M. N. Dutt: O best of kings, I am not the mistress of my body; therefore I do not go near you. Women are never independent.
का हि सर्वेषु लोकेषु विश्रुताभिजनं नृपम् कन्या नाभिलषेन्नाथं भर्तारं भक्तवत्सलम्
M. N. Dutt: Is there any girl in the three worlds who would not desire for her husband such a king as you, kind to all your dependents and born of a noble race.
तस्मादेवंगते काले याचस्व पितरं मम आदित्यं प्रणिपातेन तपसा नियमेन च
M. N. Dutt: Therefore, when the opportunity comes, ask me of my father Aditya with due salutation, ascetic penances and vows.
स चेत्कामयते दातुं तव मामरिमर्दन भविष्याम्यथ ते राजन्सततं वशवर्तिनी
M. N. Dutt: O king, O chastiser of foes, if my father bestows me on you then asked, I shall ever be your obedient (wife).
अहं हि तपती नाम सावित्र्यवरजा सुता अस्य लोकप्रदीपस्य सवितुः क्षत्रियर्षभ
M. N. Dutt: My name is Tapati, I am the younger sister of Savitri. O best of Kshatriyas, I am the daughter of Surya, the illuminator of the Universe.
