वैशंपायन उवाच कथयित्वा तु तत्सर्वं ब्राह्मणेभ्यः स भारत प्रययौ हिमवत्पार्श्वं ततो वज्रधरात्मजः

M. N. Dutt: Vaishampayana said : O descendant of Bharata, the son of the wielder of thunder (Indra), having narrated everything to the Brahmanas, started for the side of the Himalayas.

अगस्त्यवटमासाद्य वसिष्ठस्य च पर्वतम् भृगुतुङ्गे च कौन्तेयः कृतवाञ्शौचमात्मनः

M. N. Dutt: Arriving first at Agastya Vata, the son of Kunti, then went to the Vasishtha's hill. On the peak of Bhrigu hill he performed his ablutions.

प्रददौ गोसहस्राणि तीर्थेष्वायतनेषु च निवेशांश्च द्विजातिभ्यः सोऽददत्कुरुसत्तमः

M. N. Dutt: descendant of Bharata, the best of the Kurus gave away to many Brahmanas thousands of king and houses.

हिरण्यबिन्दोस्तीर्थे च स्नात्वा पुरुषसत्तमः दृष्टवान्पर्वतश्रेष्ठं पुण्यान्यायतनानि च

M. N. Dutt: That best of then bathed at the pilgrimage, named, Hiranyabindu and then that best of Pandavas went to many other sacred pieces.

अवतीर्य नरश्रेष्ठो ब्राह्मणैः सह भारत प्राचीं दिशमभिप्रेप्सुर्जगाम भरतर्षभः

M. N. Dutt: O best of Bharata race, that best of men accompanied by the Brahmanas then descended (form those hills) and the countries situated in that direction,

आनुपूर्व्येण तीर्थानि दृष्टवान्कुरुसत्तमः नदीं चोत्पलिनीं रम्यामरण्यं नैमिषं प्रति

AI Translation: The best of the Kurus saw the sacred places in due order, and the beautiful river Utpalini, and the forest of Naimisha.

नन्दामपरनन्दां च कौशिकीं च यशस्विनीम् महानदीं गयां चैव गङ्गामपि च भारत

AI Translation: Nandā, Aparanandā, Kaushikī, and the glorious one, The great river, Gayā, and also the Ganges, O descendant of Bharata.

एवं सर्वाणि तीर्थानि पश्यमानस्तथाश्रमान् आत्मनः पावनं कुर्वन्ब्राह्मणेभ्यो ददौ वसु

AI Translation: Thus seeing all the holy places and the hermitages, and purifying himself, he gave wealth to the Brahmins.

अङ्गवङ्गकलिङ्गेषु यानि पुण्यानि कानिचित् जगाम तानि सर्वाणि तीर्थान्यायतनानि च दृष्ट्वा च विधिवत्तानि धनं चापि ददौ ततः

AI Translation: In Anga, Vanga, and Kalinga, whatever meritorious deeds there were, he went to all those holy places and shrines. Having seen them properly, he then gave wealth.

कलिङ्गराष्ट्रद्वारेषु ब्राह्मणाः पाण्डवानुगाः अभ्यनुज्ञाय कौन्तेयमुपावर्तन्त भारत

M. N. Dutt: O descendant of Bharata, seeing them all and performing many ceremonies and giving away much wealth, he went to the gate of the kingdom of Kalinga where the Brahmanas, who were following him, bade the son of Kunti farewell and desisted from following him any further.

स तु तैरभ्यनुज्ञातः कुन्तीपुत्रो धनंजयः सहायैरल्पकैः शूरः प्रययौ येन सागरम्

M. N. Dutt: Having obtained their leave, the son of Kunti, the brave Dhananjaya, accompanied by only a few attendants, went there where the was.

स कलिङ्गानतिक्रम्य देशानायतनानि च धर्म्याणि रमणीयानि प्रेक्षमाणो ययौ प्रभुः

तेषां कुमाराः सर्वेषां पूर्वेषां मम जज्ञिरे कन्या तु मम जातेयं कुलस्योत्पादनी ध्रुवम्

AI Translation: All of them had sons, and I was born as the son of the last of them. But this daughter of mine, who has been born, will certainly be the producer of the family.

पुत्रो ममेयमिति मे भावना पुरुषोत्तम पुत्रिका हेतुविधिना संज्ञिता भरतर्षभ
