ब्रह्मोवाच अतः परं प्रवक्ष्यामि तृतीयं गुणमुत्तमम् सर्वभूतहितं लोके सतां धर्ममनिन्दितम्
M. N. Dutt: Brahman said I shall, after this, describe to you that excellent quality which is the third. It is beneficial to all creatures in the world, and unblamable, and forms the conduct of the good.
आनन्दः प्रीतिरुद्रेकः प्राकाश्यं सुखमेव च अकार्पण्यमसंरम्भः संतोषः श्रद्दधानता

M. N. Dutt: Freedom from cgoism, freedom from expectations, loO king on all impartially, and freedom from desire, these form the cternal religion of the good.
विश्रम्भो ह्रीस्तितिक्षा च त्यागः शौचमतन्द्रिता आनृशंस्यमसंमोहो दया भूतेष्वपैशुनम्

हित्वा सर्वाणि पापानि निःशोका ह्यजरामराः दिवं प्राप्य तु ते धीराः कुर्वते वै ततस्ततः
M. N. Dutt: Freed from sins and grief, those wise men attain to the celestial region and create various bodies (for themselves).
ईशित्वं च वशित्वं च लघुत्वं मनसश्च ते विकुर्वते महात्मानो देवास्त्रिदिवगा इव
M. N. Dutt: The power of governing everything, selfcontrol, minuteness, these great ones make by operations of their own mind, like the gods themselves living in the celestial region.
ऊर्ध्वस्रोतस इत्येते देवा वैकारिकाः स्मृताः विकुर्वते प्रकृत्या वै दिवं प्राप्तास्ततस्ततः यद्यदिच्छन्ति तत्सर्वं भजन्ते विभजन्ति च
M. N. Dutt: Such men are said to have their courses directed upwards. They are veritable gods capable of modifying all things. Attaining to the celestial region, they modify all things by their very nature.
इत्येतत्सात्त्विकं वृत्तं कथितं वो द्विजर्षभाः एतद्विज्ञाय विधिवल्लभते यद्यदिच्छति
M. N. Dutt: They get whatever objects they desire and cnjoy them. Thus have I, you foremost of twice-born ones, described to you what that conduct is which belongs to the quality of goodness. Understanding these duly, one acquires whatever objects one desires.
प्रकीर्तिताः सत्त्वगुणा विशेषतो; यथावदुक्तं गुणवृत्तमेव च नरस्तु यो वेद गुणानिमान्सदा; गुणान्स भुङ्क्ते न गुणैः स भुज्यते
M. N. Dutt: The qualities which belong to goodness have been declared particularly. The conduct which those qualities form, has also been properly described. That man who always understands these qualities, succeeds in enjoying the qualities without being attached to them.
