नारद उवाच अयं लोकः सुपर्णानां पक्षिणां पन्नगाशिनाम् विक्रमे गमने भारे नैषामस्ति परिश्रमः

M. N. Dutt: Narada said This region belongs to the birds of excellent feathers which subsist on snakes. They feel no fatigue in showing their strength in traveling or in carrying loads.

वैनतेयसुतैः सूत षड्भिस्ततमिदं कुलम् सुमुखेन सुनाम्ना च सुनेत्रेण सुवर्चसा

AI Translation: O Sūta, this family is filled with the six sons of Garuḍa, namely Sumukha, Sunāman, Sunīla, Suvarcas,

सुरूपपक्षिराजेन सुबलेन च मातले वर्धितानि प्रसूत्या वै विनताकुलकर्तृभिः

AI Translation: By the king of birds, Suparna, and by Subala, and by the creators of the family of Vinata, they were nourished by birth.

पक्षिराजाभिजात्यानां सहस्राणि शतानि च कश्यपस्य ततो वंशे जातैर्भूतिविवर्धनैः

AI Translation: Thousands and hundreds of the best of birds, born in the lineage of Kashyapa, who increase prosperity,

सर्वे ह्येते श्रिया युक्ताः सर्वे श्रीवत्सलक्षणाः सर्वे श्रियमभीप्सन्तो धारयन्ति बलान्युत

M. N. Dutt: All these are endued with prosperity; and all have the mark of Srivatsa (an auspicious mark); and all of them, desirous of prosperity, are endued with strength.

कर्मणा क्षत्रियाश्चैते निर्घृणा भोगिभोजिनः ज्ञातिसंक्षयकर्तृत्वाद्ब्राह्मण्यं न लभन्ति वै

M. N. Dutt: By their habits of life they are Kshatriyas; but as they live on snakes, they are without humanity; and owing to their constant warfare with their kinsmen they never attain to the region of Brahma.

नामानि चैषां वक्ष्यामि यथा प्राधान्यतः शृणु मातले श्लाघ्यमेतद्धि कुलं विष्णुपरिग्रहम्

M. N. Dutt: I shall describe their names according to their rank; hear, O Matali. This race is much thought of in consequence of the favor which Vishnu shows to it.

दैवतं विष्णुरेतेषां विष्णुरेव परायणम् हृदि चैषां सदा विष्णुर्विष्णुरेव गतिः सदा

M. N. Dutt: Vishnu is their god; and their object of worship, Vishnu, is ever in their heart; and Vishnu is ever their refuge.

सुवर्णचूडो नागाशी दारुणश्चण्डतुण्डकः अनलश्चानिलश्चैव विशालाक्षोऽथ कुण्डली

यद्यत्र न रुचिः काचिदेहि गच्छाव मातले तं नयिष्यामि देशं त्वां रुचिं यत्रोपलप्स्यसे

M. N. Dutt: If nobody, in these regions, is to your liking, O Matali, then come, we shall go elsewhere and lead you to that country where you will get a bridegroom.
